The Farmville Fire Department's 45 volunteer members provide fire-suppression, -education, and -prevention services to the Town of Farmville, Virginia and to the surrounding areas in portions of Prince Edward, Cumberland, and Buckingham Counties. The department’s Special Operations Unit provides response to and mitigation of incidents involving hazardous materials, suspected terrorist or criminal activity.

The Hampden-Sydney Volunteer Fire Department is located in the center of Prince Edward County on the Hampden-Sydney College campus. It supports volunteer companies in Darlington Heights, Rice, and Meherrin, and backs up the Farmville Fire Department and other volunteer companies in the county. Fire alarms are dispatched by radio from the fire-rescue dispatcher at the Farmville Police Department.
The Pamplin Volunteer Fire Dept and EMS serves the Town of Pamplin and portions of Appomattox, Prince Edward, and Charlotte counties in central southside Virginia. The Department is primarily dispatched through the Town of Farmville's Emergency Communication Center.
The Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad provides emergency medical services to the citizens of Prince Edward County, Virginia and the surrounding communities. The Squad operates five ambulances, a heavy rescue truck and an advanced life support first responder unit. Its station is located at 500 Doswell St in Farmville.
